Basic Use - The Hover Concept

The Exif It Toolbar shows up as a vertical explorer bar.  When you click teh Exif It button the vertical toolbar shouws up on the right side of Internet Explorer.  The toolbar has:

  • A drop down menu.  The menu simply lets you browse to this website to check if there are updates or to lookup this help page.
  • A font size controller.
  • A button that says Histogram.

The Exif It Toolbar is functioning only when the toolbar is made visible by clicking the Exif It button.  From this point on every time your mouse hovers over a JPEG image the EXIF information, if any, will be displayed on the toolbar.  Please note, a lot of JPEG images carry no EXIF information.  In such cases the toolbar to your left will display a message saying no EXIF information is available.

The hover concept generates an ease of use as compared to right clicking on an image, getting a menu and then making a selection on that menu to view the EXIF information.  This ease of use is mostly recognized when you have a single page with mutiple images.  As your mouse hovers from one image to another the information displayed in the toolbar will change.

Histograms

When you click the Histogram button on the toolbar you will be switched to the histogram view.  By default you will be displayed the brightness or gray scale histogram.  This is computed as taking the the sum of the Red, Green, and Blue values and then dividing by 3.  You will also be displayed a combobox where you can choose to view the Red, Green, and Blue colour histograms.  Making your mouse hover from on image to another will display you histograms from one image to another.

In the Histogram View the button that said Histogram now says Exif.  Clicking it will take you back to viewing the EXIF information.

Font Size

There are two ways to change the font size of the EXIF information you are viewing.

  1. The first is the default way for Internet Explorer.  Click anywhere on area where the EXIF information is being displayed, then press the control button and simultaneously roll the mouse wheel.  You will see the font size go up and down.  Please note:  Whatever size you choose will now become the default for your browser until you change this selection in this popup window or any other IE window.
  2. Alternatively you can click up and down on the little control that says font on the EXIF information popup window.  In this case no font changes are ever saved.  You will have to reset the font size each time the window pops up.

Advertising

We all hate advertising.  I have tried my best to keep the advertising as unobtrusive as possible.  In the EXIF information mode the advertising banner is at the bottom of the screen.  So you get what you are looking for first.  In the histogram mode there is no advertising.

By clicking on the advertising you help me make some revenue.  I make nothing if you do not click on the advertisement.  At the end of the day whether you click on the advertising or not is entirely your choice.  I will never design the software to force, trick, or harass the user into clicking on these advertisements.  This application gathers no information from your machine or browser, i.e., no spyware and does not popup any advertising windows.
